A Romantic Sunset Proposal at Eau Gallie Yacht Club in Melbourne, Florida
Some proposals are spontaneous, and others are thoughtfully planned down to the smallest detail. This beautiful sunset proposal at Eau Gallie Yacht Club in Melbourne, Florida was definitely the latter.
From the waterfront setting and gorgeous white and green florals to a surprise cannon celebration and a little champagne, this evening had all the ingredients for something incredibly special.
And behind those romantic photographs? A whole lot of planning, a little creativity, and some very determined efforts to keep the flowers from blowing into the water!
Finding the Perfect Melbourne, Florida Proposal Location
When the groom first contacted me, he already had some wonderful ideas for where he wanted to propose.
We talked through several possibilities, considering the setting, the atmosphere, and what would work best for the kind of moment he envisioned.
Ultimately, we agreed that Eau Gallie Yacht Club would be a beautiful choice.
With its waterfront views, private docks, and spectacular sunsets over the water, it offered the romantic backdrop he was looking for.
He took care of getting permission to use the yacht club, and then we got to work bringing the rest of his vision together.
Bringing His Vision to Life: White Florals and a Waterfront Setup
One thing I loved about planning this proposal was that the groom knew exactly what he wanted.
He even shared inspiration photographs with me showcasing beautiful white and green floral arrangements—elegant, romantic, and timeless.
I connected with Julie Miner Events, who created the gorgeous floral arrangements that helped bring his vision to life.
I brought everything needed for the setup and arranged it all on the dock, creating a beautiful little spot overlooking the water where he could ask one very important question.
Of course, Mother Nature had a few ideas of her own.
It was WINDY.
And if you’ve ever tried to arrange flowers on a dock in Florida when the wind picks up, you know that keeping everything in place can be a bit of an adventure.
Let’s just say there were some strategically placed rocks involved in making sure those beautiful arrangements stayed exactly where they belonged.
Sometimes the prettiest setups require a little behind-the-scenes problem-solving!
The Moment He Asked the Question
With the arrangements in place and the sun beginning to set, everything was ready.
The warm evening light reflected across the water, and the dock looked absolutely beautiful.
And then came the moment we’d been planning for.
He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
These are the moments I love photographing most. The surprise, the happiness, the emotion, and those first few seconds when everything else seems to disappear.
And with the water and sunset behind them, the setting couldn’t have been prettier.
Champagne, Celebrations, and a Surprise Cannon!
Of course, a proposal this special deserves a little celebration.
One of the things I like to bring along for proposal setups is champagne. Actually, two bottles!
One is for the celebratory champagne pop, because those photographs are always so much fun.
The second is a nicer bottle that the couple can enjoy together or take home for later.
It’s a small detail, but I love giving couples the chance to celebrate and enjoy those first moments of being engaged.
And this particular proposal came with another unexpected surprise.
Eau Gallie Yacht Club set off its cannon!
The couple’s reactions were priceless, and I loved capturing them cheering together.
It was such a fun addition to an already memorable evening.
Sunset Portraits Along the Dock
After the proposal, we had time to take advantage of that gorgeous Florida sunset.
We walked along the dock, capturing a mixture of romantic portraits and those little in-between moments that always end up being some of my favorites.
The boats, the water, the wooden docks, and the beautiful colors in the sky created the perfect setting.
And because the pressure of the actual proposal was over, the couple could simply relax, enjoy being together, and soak in the excitement of being newly engaged.
Those moments are just as important as the proposal itself.
A Little Behind the Scenes: What Goes Into Planning a Surprise Proposal?
Here’s something that doesn’t always show up in the finished photographs: the planning and preparation that happen before the couple arrives.
For this proposal, that meant talking through location ideas, helping choose the best setting, coordinating the floral arrangements, bringing the setup, arranging everything on the dock, and making sure all the little details came together.
And yes, occasionally weighing down floral arrangements with rocks so they wouldn’t blow away!
I was also lucky enough to have my husband to capture a little behind-the-scenes footage of me photographing the couple as the sun went down.
I love sharing these glimpses because they show another side of what I do.
As a Melbourne, Florida proposal photographer, my job isn’t just to show up with my camera.
It’s also about helping create an experience that feels personal, thoughtful, and true to the couple.
Whether you have a very specific vision or absolutely no idea where to begin, I’m happy to help you figure out the details.
