Before every wedding I ask couples what they’re most looking forward to.
John’s answer: watching Amy walk down the aisle, and looking deep into her eyes while he read his vows.
He did both. The emotion ran high during both. And it was incredible!
There’s a moment with him at the top of the aisle with a handkerchief pressed to his eyes, and another of him mid-vow, hand flat against his chest, eyes shut, trying to get the words out. I’ve photographed a lot of weddings. I have never seen a groom react like this one did. His love, excitement and pure joy were palpable.
Amy’s answer to the same question was that she was most looking forward to marrying the love of her life, after praying for him for many years — and to honoring her parents on the day.
They said their vows under a gold circle arch draped in white, with pampas grass and blush and peach roses framing them. All against the backdrop of Costa d’Este’s white breeze-block walls and bird of paradise.
The ceremony was funny as well as emotional.
What happened next?
After the ceremony we slipped away to the beach for a few portraits against a perfect overcast sky before heading back up the ceremony area for a few more portraits.
By the time we reached the ballroom there were floating candles on every table, pink uplights on the walls, and the two of them dancing like nobody was watching.
